About

Team New Zealand was created in 2016 by a group of keen New Zealand roller derby veterans eager to see their country represented at the 2018 Roller Derby World Cup in Manchester, UK.

With no national body or group to guide the selection of a representative side, Team New Zealand Roller Derby’s members set out to create an organisation from scratch to make that dream come true.

Roller derby was first played in New Zealand in 2006 by the Pirate City Rollers, based in Auckland. Since then, more than 25 leagues have sprung to life in towns and cities throughout the country.

Our country’s roller derby community is tight-knit, and our history is varied and rich. Not all of it has been good, but a lot of it has been great.

Team New Zealand is the result of passion, commitment, dedication, and resilience from skaters, officials, volunteers, and more within New Zealand’s roller derby community determined to see their country represented with pride.
